Mobile Launch: Finally! Romancing Saga 3 Comes West!
For English speaking fans of JRPGs, a 24 year wait is finally over! Romancing Saga 3, a classic JRPG originally released in 1995, hit western markets today on mobile, PC, and platform. Today’s game is an HD remastered version of the original, and will inspire nostalgia and pull at the heart-strings of any gamer who played this style of game from the 1990s.
When speaking of the classic great games of this genre, Romancing Saga 3 certainly deserves a mention alongside great names such as Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Chrono-Trigger. Unfortunately, this title is all but unknown amongst western gamers, as it never saw an English release. Today, that changes.
Story
From the official English language website:
“The Rise of Morastrum–an event where the dark star blocks out the sun–threatens the very existence of our world. All born in that year are doomed to perish before its end.
However, during the first Rise of Morastrum 600 years ago, a sole child did survive. He came to be known as the Archfiend, leading the world to ruins.
Another 300 years passed, and again a child defied fate. She came to be known as the Matriarch, defeating the evil and bringing peace back to the world.
Now, 300 years later, the Rise of Morastrum strikes again, and the fate of the world hangs in the balance.
Will there be another child of destiny? Will the child be righteous, evil, or another force that the world cannot fathom?
And now, we relive the grand story revolving around the “Child of Fate” who survived…”
You will choose one of 8 protagonists to be the Child of Fate. At crucial narrative points in the game, your choices will affect the character’s story, the overall narrative, and will ultimately determine the fate of the world.
Gameplay
Romancing Saga 3 has a classic turn based playing style. Characters develop naturally based on the actions chosen by the player. A character that often attacks physically, will develop stronger physical attacks, and the converse is true for magical attacks. The strategic elements of the game are in choosing the composition and formation of your 5 person party, and how characters are recruited, equipped, and developed. There is also a war campaign style mode and various mini-games.
Release Info
Romancing Saga 3 has been released for mobile on both iOS and Android, on PC through Steam, and on Playstation, Nintendo Switch, and XBox. It sells as a premium product and price ranges from $23-$26.
Conclusion
Whether you are a brand new adventurer stepping into the glory days of a golden age for JRPGs, or a long-time fan retreading paths and battles long ago fought, Romancing Saga 3 has earned its reputation as a time-tested classic.
