Here’s my review on the 3 starting classes that I spent all my time on during Black Desert Mobile Soft launch: Witch, Ranger & Valkyrie. These are my personal opinions so take them as you will.

Side-notes: Contrary to my initial impression, Witch is actually an extremely mobile class. Her teleport is vastly superior to the rolling of the other 4 classes and she also has a strong movement-speed buff at lvl50. She is a AoE machine gun turret, there is no downtime between her AoE spells so there is never a moment when you’re not discharging massive AoE damage. Unbeatable in afk field farming, highest %damage out of the 5 base classes. Unable to move while casting spells. Some spells have a cast time which can very easily be interrupted in pvp. Long range spells can be side-stepped in pvp so you need to predict where to aim your cc spells. Teleport is very nice for dodging everything. Almost every skill has CC so she can very easily combo-lock players.

Side-notes: You might be wondering why I rated her mobility so low when she is generally regarded as the most mobile class. My reasoning is that out of the 5 classes, I found that she is the one with the least lock-down potential in pvp. Facing runners in Arena, the other 4 classes have very good gap-closer skills + aoe stuns that allows them to deal with those punks. But Ranger really lacks that kind of initiative. She does however have godlike kiting abilities that makes her a nightmare to fight/chase. In terms of raw %damage & AoE, Ranger is a bit worse than Witch, but she does have better single target damage. I believe that Ranger is the most versatile/well-rounded out of the 5 available base classes. She heavily counters Witch in PvP & can kite the hell out of the 3 melee classes as long as you don’t get caught. Getting caught by a good valk / giant player usually means getting cc-chained to death. A good portion of her spells also requires a short cast-time and can be very easily interrupted in pvp.

Side-notes: With multiple long-range charges in her skill kit she is arguably the most mobile class in the game currently. The downside to those charges though is that it often forces your character to go further than you want. You can’t cancel the charge & there is no way to change the direction mid-charge. Her various Super Armor + Forward Guard skills makes her an un-stoppable frontline who can always catch her targets. I found her ability to field-farm to be equal to Rangers, thanks to her high mobility & high% damage skills she can out-farm any class but the Witch. I did however find some of her attack skills to be a bit clunky, the delay between her slashes felt off to me. But I chalk that up to mainly in-experience in playing the class as she is a very skill-based class that will be very difficult to master.
